In the county where I reside, Santa Cruz California…the biggest holiday is Halloween. I know of nothing quite like it elsewhere, although I imagine there are similar celebrations. For most of the afternoon and evening, people of all ages come stroll the main drag in town, which the city closes off to cars. And what a display of pure JOY, humanity, creativity, whimsy, originality, and spirit it is!!
The number of people coming out to play is always in the thousands. It is the highlight of the year for many here. (I know personally a few people who flew or drove furiously from out of town vacations to be back here for Halloween!).
